Manchester City are looking to defend their Premier League crown this season, and they face Club America looking to add a bit of bite. Manchester City kick off their pre-season as they take on Mexican side Club America in their first match of the US tour this summer. Their US tour this summer comes as Premier League champions City are set to make their first appearances after lifting the league nearly two months ago. Manchester City will look to be fit ahead of that by holding two pre-season friendlies, with the first taking place against Mexican side Club America on Wednesday.
Club America has won its domestic league on 13 occasions, which is a record, placing it one ahead of Guadalajara when it comes to league titles, and will turn their attentions swiftly to the 2022-23 Premier League following their pre-season friendlies, with their next match coming on 23 July against Club Tijuana. Club America will have rare travels having played three League matches by the time their season starts at the beginning of the month -- they lost the final game against Chelsea, 2-1, in yet another pre-season game to a Premier League opponent.
The Manchester City vs Club America pre-season friendly is set to take place at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The pre-season friendly match will be streamed live on CITY+, which is Citys live event streaming service. Mexican league superpowers Club America are playing in a friendly match at the start of their LigaMX season, in which they are struggling in 11th position in the table, going 1-1-0. Standing in Manchester Citys way of an opening victory is Club America, a Mexican team who played against Chelsea on Saturday. Club America started their 2022 Apertura Tournament season in the New Year by drawing against Manchester City, which was a frustrating match for the American fans, who wanted them to win the opening match of the season.
